About Sharon Bacal

Sharon is not the first artist to find her calling as a second profession; she is a Chartered Accountant and was previously a partner at Coopers & Lybrand (now known as PWC).  Inspired by the biographies of other artists who had abandoned their careers, in 1995, Sharon retired from public practice.  Leaving the profession was an enormous sacrifice, both financially and personally, but she persevered.  She went to the Art Centre at Central Technical Institute for her foundation studies and then went on to the Toronto School of Art where she studied for four years and obtained a Diploma in Fine Arts.

Sharon is also academically trained.   While maintaining her studio and continuing to pursue her art career, in 2002, she began to study on a part-time basis with John Michael Angel in Toronto, (now of the John Michael Angel Studio, Florence, Italy) and continued to work with Fernando Freitas at the Academy of Realist Art (www.academyofrealistart.com) until her graduation.

Sharon currently works in her studio in Toronto, where she has been creating drawings and paintings since 1995.
